The Future Is Now!

On May 25, the continent commemorates Africa Day, highlighting the challenges that continue to face our current reality while celebrating the progress we have achieved so far. Africa Day is an opportunity for citizens to reconnect and recommit themselves to support developmental initiatives that aim at changing the lives of Africans and advancing the continent.

 

There are certain factors that contribute to Africa being one of the fastest growing economies in the world today. With competitive commodity pricing along with the emerging markets thirst for natural resources that have literally fuelled the economies of Nigeria, Angola and lately Ghana, and the not so sleeping giant of China constantly stomping its footprint, Africa remains a continent in demand.

If African governments can find the right formula to take care of its people, then the continent will soon be on a more level playing field globally with regard to preserving the health of its citizens ahead and beyond the next 50 years.

 

“There have been many great politicians in the world, but few have achieved monumental status. Nelson Mandela is the first individual in whose honour the United Nations named an annual international day, as he is considered a model world citizen.” These are the words from Artist Li Bin’s “A Tribute To Mandela” which was recently on display at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, was a fitting and a sobering reminder of Madiba’s teachings.
