The Future Is Now!

BY ASHLEY ADDEH 27TH JUNE, 2015 13:32

On May 25, the continent commemorates Africa Day, highlighting the challenges that continue to face our current reality while celebrating the progress we have achieved so far. Africa Day is an opportunity for citizens to reconnect and recommit themselves to support developmental initiatives that aim at changing the lives of Africans and advancing the continent.

There are certain factors that contribute to Africa being one of the fastest growing economies in the world today. With competitive commodity pricing along with the emerging markets thirst for natural resources that have literally fuelled the economies of Nigeria, Angola and lately Ghana, and the not so sleeping giant of China constantly stomping its footprint, Africa remains a continent in demand.

If African governments can find the right formula to take care of its people, then the continent will soon be on a more level playing field globally with regard to preserving the health of its citizens ahead and beyond the next 50 years.

“There have been many great politicians in the world, but few have achieved monumental status. Nelson Mandela is the first individual in whose honour the United Nations named an annual international day, as he is considered a model world citizen.” These are the words from Artist Li Bin’s “A Tribute To Mandela” which was recently on display at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, was a fitting and a sobering reminder of Madiba’s teachings.

In this edition, Nomad Africa Magazine’s Bruce Germaine had an exclusive interview with Salad Nthenda, who is the Vice Consul Tourism, Malawian Consulate-General. Salad highlights the major tourist attractions and what makes Malawi a unique destination for tourists, challenges and strategies the Malawian government has deployed to improve on tourism in Malawi.

Top Gallivant destinations are majestic Lesotho, a stroll through history – the architectural heritage of Cape Town, South Africa and we explore building a family in Kenya.

Saving the best for the last, we at Nomad Africa magazine are glad to announce the launch of NomadTV – our new digital online television platform. This presents us  with yet another medium to celebrate the world’s richest continent. The choices we make today as Africans will greatly affect our development trajectory far into the long-term.  The future is now!
